Wednesbury RUFC Player Selection Guidelines
1. The Selection Committee shall comprise of the Club Coach(es); Team Captains & Vice Captains and any selected independent match observers. A ‘Players Representative’ may be invited to the Committee, but as an OBSEVER ONLY.
2. Selection is to take place on Tuesday evening (or at a time agreed by the Coach and members of the Selection Committee) after checking availability.
3. Selection is to take place formally and ‘In Private’ – NOT in the Bar area with general members present.
4. Selection shall follow a recognised procedure of game reports – followed by comments on performance of individual players. Each member is permitted to make their own contribution ‘Round the Table’. Selection should not be seen as a ‘Fait Accompli’ made by 1 or 2 members.
5. It is each Captains responsibility to check availability for the following week, either directly before or after each game.
6. It is also every Players responsibility to make sure that the Team Captain is aware of his availability for the following week.
7. ATTENDANCE AT TRAINING is the major factor taken into account in team selection, particularly in the case of 1XV and 2XV players.
8. PAYMENT OF ANNUAL SUBSCRIPTIONS is another important factor in team selection. Any player not fully paid-up by 1st November of current season may expect to be selected for the lowest side being fielded or even omitted from selection completely.
9. When a Player is dropped it is compulsory for the Team Captain to contact the Player and explain thoroughly the reasons why (e.g Ability/Fitness etc) and how the player can improve.
10. If a Player make himself unavailable (for whatever reason) he may well expect to be dropped down to a lower team. Although exceptional circumstances (e.g Health/Work/Holiday) may be taken into account.
11. Players who restrict the venue for the availability (eg will only play Home games) may expect this to effect their future selection.
12. Players who fail to show after confirming their availability or withdrawing their availability at the last minute may expect to be dropped to the lowest team when they next become available.
13. Players who commit acts of Indiscipline (On or Off the Field) may be omitted.
